Evgeny Kucheryavy was born in 1974 in Leningrad, USSR. In 2004, he received his PhD degree from Tampere University of Technology, Finalnd. Since 1996, he has been teaching for various target groups, students and professionals in Austria, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Finland, Ireland, Russia, Sweden, Spain, and the USA. Since 2010, he has been a professor and head of the laboratory at the Department of Electronics and Communications at the Tampere University of Technology (TUT, Finland), and since 2014, he has been a visiting professor at the Higher School of Economics. He served as a member of PhD assessment panels or as a PhD examiner in seven countries.

Evgeny worked in many R&D projects within various structures, for example, 7th Framework programme (FP7), Horizon 2020 (H2020), and companies including Nokia, Nokia Siemens Networks, Intel, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Cisco, etc. He is an expert in Skoltech (Russia) and acts as an external reviewer for government funding in a number of European countries.

He is the author or co-author of over 300 articles in the field of advanced wired and wireless networks and communications. His h-index is 34 (August 2020). He holds two US patents. Currently, his research interests include various aspects of heterogeneous wireless networks and communication systems, assessing the effectiveness of networks and services, the Internet of Things and its standardization, and nanocommunications. Besides, Evgeny is a member of the editorial boards of authoritative international titles such as IEEE Communications Magazine, IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials, and IEEE Communication Society Technology News. He is an IEEE senior member.

Since 2006, Evgeny has been an entrepreneur and investor. He is a member of the board of directors of two innovative ICT companies.
